Four people died in a house in Kiryu, Gunma Prefecture, on Friday after having apparently inhaled carbon monoxide.
Smoke and fire were seen emanating from a house belonging to Koji Kaburaki at around 5 a.m. Emergency workers rushed to the scene where they found the second story of the house had been largely destroyed by the blaze, Fuji TV reported.
Eyewitnesses say Kaburaki escaped from the house having sustained burns to his arms and legs. One of his daughter was saved when she jumped from a second floor window and was caught.
